About the photographer Max Reeves
Max Reeves is a New Zealand photographer living and working in London. His work looks at issues of Myth, Marginality and Genius Loci.
Max was born in Papakura, New Zealand in 1966. He moved to London in 1990. He is a self taught photographer and marginal artist. Reeves’s work reflects his position on the peripheries of the mainstream focusing on themes of freedom, control and individuality in society.
He is the ‘official’ photographer for the maverick humanitarian group The Serious Road Trip and traveled with them to Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Palestine and elsewhere. He is one of the Bedlam (Royal Bethlem Mental Hospital) artists and exhibits regularly with them at the Gallery and in off-site shows. He is a photographer of the House of Fairy Tales and has been in The John Kobal Photographic Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery in London. He has had solo shows in London, Auckland, Berlin, Sarajevo, Mostar, Yekaterinburg, Orleans, Paris, Dublin and Helsinki as well as many group shows.
In 1987 he founded Entropy Press which now publishes poetry and photography books and he produced the zine Papakura Post Office.
He founded the Wetherspoons Psychogeosofy Club in 2008 and is a member of the Bethlem Arts advisory board.
